Charles Walter Dennis

August 23, 1931 - September 26, 2021

Charles Walter Dennis, age 90, of Newcomerstown, passed peacefully at his residence on September 26, surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born August 23, 1931 to the late Walter and Caroline (Porcher) Dennis. On September 29, 1976, he married the late Katherine Jean (Welsh) Dennis. He served his country honorably in the Army and retired after more than 40 years from Alsco Aluminum. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Church of Newcomerstown and was a former member of American Legion Post 431, Newcomerstown VFW 1337, the Newcomerstown Elks, and Newcomerstown Moose, serving four years as governor. Charles loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, sharing the fruits of his labor with neighbors, friends, and family, who all held special places in his heart. Charles is survived by his children, Caroline (Gary) Steffey of Chesapeake, VA, Susan (Gerald) Johnson of Currituck, NC, Jon (Tina) Dennis of Poplar Branch, NC, Mike Dennis of Currituck, NC, step-daughter, Bonni (Tom) Granato of New Philadelphia; siblings, Judy (Ted) Smith of West Lafayette and John (Vicky) Dennis of West Lafayette; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Dennis of Newcomerstown and Dick (Grace) Dennis of Fredericksburg, PA. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Interim Home Health Care and Hospice and nurses Jenna and Jackie for the exemplary care and compassion shown to our father during his battle with mesothelioma. A military graveside service at West Lawn Cemetery will take place on Friday, October 1 at 11 AM, conducted by the Newcomerstown Veteran's Honor Guard.
