Iris J. Fruchey

June 12, 1925 - November 23, 2016

Iris J. Fruchey, 91, a life long resident of Newcomerstown passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. She was born June 12, 1925, the daughter of the late Francis and Ethel (Holder) Bethel. Iris graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1943. She worked at Scott's 5 & 10 Store and later worked in the shipping office at Heller File Shop. After her marriage in 1949, she worked part-time for the Newcomerstown News for seven years, and then she worked as a part-time secretary for the Trinity Methodist Church. When the new Christ United Methodist Church of Newcomerstown was built, she worked 18 years as a full time secretary. She and her husband were active members there. On September 3, 1949, she married Virgil L. Fruchey who preceded her in death May 18, 2002 after 53 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Doris Conwell. Now they will all be together again. Virgil and Iris were the parents of two daughters, Ellen (Leslie) Cook of Boulder, CO and Jane (Arthur) McGirr of Little Hocking; five grandchildren, Amanda Cook of Nashville, TN, Katie (Cook) Marostica of Boulder, CO, Emma McGirr of Las Vegas, NV, Seth and Jedidiah McGirr of Little Hocking; one great-granddaughter, Lillian Marostica; and one sister, Lavonne Lyons of Conroe, TX. Services will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown with Rev. Bracken G. Foster officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery.
