Donald Kopes

Dr. Donald S. Kopes, 78, of 481 Cross St., Newcomerstown, O., died Monday, April 14, 2008, in his residence at Newcomerstown, O. He was born March 12, 1930, in Tuscarawas County, O., a son of the late Alice (Shryock) Spencer and Steve Kopes. He was valedictorian of Newcomerstown High School class of 1948, a graduate of Ohio University and Ohio State University Dental School in 1955. He was a Captain in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. For 50 years he practiced dentistry in Newcomerstown and later in Coshocton. He was a lifetime member of Newcomerstown Elks Lodge 1555 and Newcomerstown Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, quilting, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching the Indians and Buckeyes. Surviving are his wife, Beryl (Best) Kopes, whom he married Aug. 17, 1949; two daughters, Jane Kopes-Dixon and husband Randy of Groveport and Karen Archer and husband Dave of Newcomers-town; four grandchildren, Wendi (Don) Smith, Nate (Juanita) Archer, Andy (Jessica) Archer and Abby (Brian) Collins; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Dylen, Aaron, Holly (his sweetheart), Jordon, Evan and Alex; brother-in-law, Robert M. Best and wife Shirley of Binghamton, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Jane Addy of Newcomerstown. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Roselyn Best, and a brother-in-law, Thomas D. Addy. Services will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Thursday, April 17, 2008, beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Garry Marlatt officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Newcomerstown, O. Visitation will be at Addy Funeral Home on Thursday, April 17, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, O. 44622.
