Edward E. Ray, 78, of 101 Starkey Dr., Newcomerstown, O., died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in his residence at Newcomerstown, O. He was born July 9, 1929, at Newcomerstown, O., a son of the late Mildred F. (Marlatt) Ray and Elmer W. Ray. He was a 1947 Newcomerstown High School graduate where he played basketball, football and baseball. He was a Navy World War II veteran, serving on the USS Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier. He retired from A.E.P. in 1991. He worked at Ohio Power for over 44 years and was district line supervisor. He was a member of the Veteran?s Assn. of Ohio Power and Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville. He coached young league basketball, football and baseball. On June 30, 1951, he married Marilyn (Wilkin) Ray, who died Feb. 13, 1989. Surviving are three sons, Edward L. Ray and fiancee Joanne of Fort Worth, Texas, Kevin E. Ray and wife Ruth of Carrollton and Stanton Tedlie and wife Pam of Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Kara (Mike) Shroyer, Lisa (Andy) Carr, Jimmy (Amanda) Ray, Kristen (Brian) Harmon, Edward L. Ray Jr., David Ray, Casey R. (Morgan) Ray; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma R. Ross of Newcomerstown; two sisters-in-law, Florence Ray of Florida and Jean Wilkin of Newcomerstown; a special friend, Margaret Sowinski of Cambridge. He was preceded in death by one son, Darren R. Ray, who died Aug. 10, 2000; two brothers, Donald R. and Robert W. Ray. Services will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Monday, June 30, 2008, beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Donald Silverthorne officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Newcomerstown, O. Visitation will be at Addy Funeral Home on Sunday, June 29, 2008, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, O. 44622, or a charity of the donor?s choice.
