Ellen M. Belt, 90, of 654 E. Canal St., Newcomerstown, O., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover, O. Born Nov. 18, 1917, at Wellsville, O., she was a daughter of the late Mary (McGorick) Scarberry and Charles Scarberry. She was a homemaker and worked at the former Suds and Duds in Newcomerstown. During World War II she worked at Pyramid Rubber and the Arsenal in Ravenna. She was a member of Newcomerstown Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of Blue Star Mothers of Newcomerstown and a volunteer at Riverside Manor Nursing home. On July 2, 1947, she married John Belt Sr., who died Dec. 20, 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Bricker and Rita Ridgway, both of Newcomerstown; one son, John Belt Jr. and wife Carol of Columbus, Ind.; six grandchildren, Christopher (Kara) Belt, Mary Ellen (Scott) Taylor, Bob Bricker Jr., Mitch (Jodi) Bricker, Brenda (Jeff) Emmons and Nancy (David) Woolweaver; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Eugene Belt; two great-grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister. Services will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Burial will be in Coshocton County Memory Gardens at Coshocton, O. Visitation is in Addy Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Church of the Nazarene, 363 Neighbor St., Newcomerstown, O. 43832.
