Our beautiful mother, Frances Kina Bernardo Durben, left this world Wednesday, April 9, 2008, to begin a new journey with God, a life free of worry, free of pain and free of sorrow. She was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Monongalia County, W.Va., to the late James and Angelina (Prestere) Bernardo. Frances lost both parents by the age of 10. She and sister Margaret lived with foster parents in Morgantown. When her older sister, Mary, married Lester Myers of Newcomerstown, she and Margaret lived with them and attended school in Newcomerstown. It was there she met and married Ray E. Durben on Oct. 23, 1946. Together they reared five children, Marlene (Jeff) Hostetler, Kay (Randy) Braniger, all of West Lafayette, Linda (Tom) Mason of Newcomerstown, Ray (Lorelei) Durben and Pam (Roy) Tipton, all of Coshocton. Frances worked at Groovfold in Newcomerstown for 20 years. She was a member of the Isleta Church of Christ. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with family and attending her grandchildren?s sporting events. Frances always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on May 15, 1977; two great-grandchildren, Justin Morris and Kaieden Smith; two sisters, Mary Myers and Margaret Steinbach; and two brothers and their wives, Russell (Margaret) and Carlo (Emily) Bernardo. She is survived by all her loving children; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law, James Durben of Coshocton, Robert Steinbach of Port Washington and Lester Myers of Newcomerstown. God is truly welcoming one of the best mothers ever, and she will be sadly missed. Visitation will be at Addy Funeral Home in Newcomers-town on Sunday, April 13, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. with the funeral at the Isleta United Methodist Church on Monday, April 14, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Johnnie Swann officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Coshocton County, P.O. Box 1284, Coshocton, O. 43812 or to Coshocton County Hospital Extended Care Facilities, 1460 Orange St., Coshocton, O. 43812.
