Harold G. Tedrow, 87 passed away Sunday, December 29th at Mansfield Hospital after a long period of declining health. Born on the family farm in Gilmore, OH, he was the son of the late Clarence “Whitey” and Mabel (Utterbach) Tedrow and was a 1955 graduate of Port Washington High School.
He began his working career at the Royal Typewriter Company in Cleveland, OH, later joining Fleming’s in New Philadelphia, OH. In the early 1970’s, he and co-worker Edgar A Heverly, acquired Fleming’s from Bill Fleming. In 1979 he purchased Tucker Printing Co., from Bob and Bill Tucker, also of New Philadelphia. In later years, operated Recreational Hunting & Shooting Club at the family farm with his brother John, son Tracy and partner Mary Pearl Lowe, until health issues limited his mobility. Community service was always a priority in Harold’s life. He held various offices over the years including, but not limited to membership and Club President of the New Philadelphia Jaycees; member and former President of the New Philadelphia Rotary Club; Board member of the Tuscarawas County YMCA and United Way of Tuscarawas County; participation in fund raising for the Boy Scouts of America and Trumpet-in-the-Land; and served as a Trustee of the First United Methodist Church. He was also President of the New Philadelphia Downtown Improvement Corporation leading the Downtown Revitalization Project in the late 1980’s. Other offices held were on the New Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Board and Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. He was a former member of Union Country Club, and Atwood Yacht Club where held the rank of Commodore. Most recently he was an Officer and volunteer with the Newcomerstown Elks Lodge #1555, Newcomerstown, OH. Survivors include his soulmate of 25 years, Mary Pearl Lowe of Bellville, OH; sons Jeffrey H. (Elaine) and Tracy P. (Beth) Tedrow of New Philadelphia; grandchildren Lorin Harold ”Hal” (Bre) Tedrow of Columbus, OH, and Hilary Joyce (Joss) Celuch of New Philadelphia; sisters Mary Jurin of Marietta, OH, and Hazel Koschny of Columbus, OH, sister-in-law, Linda Tedrow of Bellville, OH. Mary’s children, Jennifer Pearl of Florida, Crickett Pearl and Amber Pearl of Mansfield, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline S. (Bond) Tedrow, brother John Tedrow of Bellville, OH, brother-in-laws, Jack Jurin of Marietta, OH, and Art Koschny of Columbus, OH, granddaughter, Megan Marie Tedrow and Mary’s son, Shannon Pearl. Nephews James R. Jurin and James B. “Toad” Tedrow. Services will be held Thursday January 9, 2025, at 11 AM at Addy Funeral Home with pastor John Zapp officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery, Port Washington, OH.
