Jared H. Sweitzer, 86, of 17096 Johnson Hill Road, Newcomerstown, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at his residence. He was born April 28, 1922, in Buckhannon, W.V., to the late Frederick and Cora Skidmore Sweitzer. Jared served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean War. He was an accountant for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Akron until his retirement in 1982. He was a former member of the Elk's Lodge in Sebring, Fla. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Garretson and husband James of Newcomerstown; a son, Dennis Sweitzer of Madison Heights, Va.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchilden; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy J. Watts Sweitzer, who he married on March 18, 1946, and who died Aug. 27, 2003; a brother, Lewis Sweitzer; and two sisters, Analine Sweitzer and Caroline Gibson. Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, with funeral services following at the Addy Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Shults officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Avon Park, Fla., where military services will be conducted. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Tuscawaras County, 201 W.
