John J. "Jack" Ward, age 85, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at his home in Port Washington. John was born March 15, 1921 to the late James Henry and Ellen (Dye) Ward. He was a graduate of the Antioch High School. He was a dairy and beef farmer. John served during WWII in the Army Air Corp from July 20, 1942 until December 28, 1945. He was also a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church and American Legion Antrim Post 461. John was married on November 7, 1947, to Evelyn J. (Shepherd) Ward who passed away on July 22, 2002. John is survived by two daughters, Nancy Cooper and husband John of Lore City, Karen A. Ward of Kimbolton; two sons, Samuel Ward and wife Terrye of Gnadenhutten, James Ward of Port Washington; four grandchildren, Andrea Gehrig and husband Mike, Erica Baker and husband Craig, Sarah Ward, and Hannah Ward; two great-grandchildren, Brendan Baker and Claire Baker; three sisters, Evelyn Fielding of Pontiac, MI, Ruthella Gertz of Navarre, Laura Mallernee and husband Bill of Bolivar; one brother, Bill Ward and wife Annie of Marietta; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by three brothers, James E., Robert and Ervine Ward; two sisters, Edithe McNalley and Audrey Ward. Funeral service for John will be held at Birmingham United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 17, 2006, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Huntsman officiating. Burial will be in West Union Cemetery. Military graveside service will be conducted by Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
