Laura Violet Durben, 91, of 14027 Pershing Ave., Newcomerstown, died Monday, Dec., 24, 2007, at her home. Born Sept., 5, 1916, in Coshocton County, she was a daughter of the late Wendell and Mary (Phillips) Rothenstine. Mrs. Durben and her husband owned and operated Gulf Gas Stations in Newcomerstown and West Lafayette. She also worked at Buckeye Mart, Heller Tool and was a homemaker. She was a member of Silver Bar Saddle Club; and Newcomerstown and Coshocton saddle clubs. On July 12, 1934, she married Harold E. "Gene" Durben, who died in 1981. Survivors include a son, Larry Durben and wife Betty of Brewster; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edna Schlupp; a granddaughter; four brothers; four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown, with Jim Tufford officiating. Burial will take place at Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the funeral home.
