Maxine Davis

Maxine E. Davis, 87, of 494 Cross St., Newcomerstown, O., died Thursday, June 26, 2008, in her residence at Newcomerstown. She was born April 19, 1921, at Newcomerstown, O., a daughter of the late Mabel A. (Turney) Lewis and Ray H. Lewis Sr. She was a 1939 Newcomerstown High School graduate. She retired from N.C.R. and also worked at Simond?s (Heller?s) and Morgan Pharmacy. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church at Newcomerstown. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star ? Oriental Chapter and Tuscarawas County Humane Society. She was a former member of King?s Daughters Class and formerly taught Sunday School. On Dec. 18, 1939, she married John Harold Davis, who died Oct. 22, 2004. Surviving are one son, John R. Davis and wife Evelyn of Newcomerstown; two grandsons, John R. Davis II and wife Karen of Johnstown and Jeffrey Davis and wife Mary of Sunbury; six great-grandchildren, J.D., Hannah, Landen, Logan, Megan and Joey Davis; two nephews, Bob Lewis and Charles Lewis of Marysville. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, one brother, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. Private family graveside services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008, in West Lawn Cemetery at Newcomerstown, O. There are no calling hours.
