Raymond Johnson Obituary

Raymond J. Johnson, 88, of 58492 County Rd. 9, Newcomerstown, O., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, in Coshocton County Memorial Hospital at Coshocton, O. He was born April 30, 1920, in Linton Township, Coshocton County, O., a son of the late Emma (Wilson) Johnson and Allen Johnson. He was a graduate of Plainfield High School class of 1938 and Cleveland College of Mortuary Science in 1948. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific Theater. He was a retired salesman for Hy-Pro Tool Co. of New Bedford, Mass., and later worked for Eureka Hardware of Newcomerstown. He was Methodist by faith. He was a member of USS Colorado Alumni Assn., Thomas Montgomery American Legion Post No. 431 of Newcomerstown, member of USS Standard Landing Craft Unit 18, a World War II South Pacific operation. Raymond joined the U.S. Navy in 1940 and was discharged as a Yeoman 1st class in 1946 and served on the USS Colorado and USS Standard Landing Craft Unit. Raymond's mother died six weeks after his birth, and he was adopted by Allen and Emma Johnson. Surviving are four nephews, Robert Osler, Phillip Osler, Alan Osler and Randy Osler; two nieces, Rosemary Owmbey and Barbara Crooks; several great-nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Harry and Mae (Dean) Osler; five brothers, Carl, Paul, Charles, Gilbert and Harry Osler. Services will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Harman officiating. Burial will be in Plainfield Cemetery at Plainfield, O., where military services will be conducted by the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation is at Addy Funeral Home on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Plainfield Cemetery, in care of Linton Township Trustees, Plainfield, O. 43836.
