Robert “Wayne” Schworm, 99 of Newcomerstown, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025 at Roscoe Gardens.
Wayne was born May 30, 1926, in Newcomerstown to the late Elmer and Helen (Borkowski) Schworm. Wayne was a 1944 graduate of Newcomerstown High School, and then went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Navy during WWII, along with his five brothers. He served on LSM 115, LST 653, and LCI-630 in the South Pacific. He retired from Gen Corp after twenty-five years. He also worked at Heller File and Tool, and Borders Dairy for thirteen years in New Philadelphia. On December 12, 1952 he married Mary Ann Caldwell, who passed away on December 19, 2011. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and enjoyed showing cars for thirty-eight years. There is a six star flag in the Newcomerstown Museum in honor of the six brothers who served in World War II, given to Wayne’s parents from the President of the United States, Harry Truman.
He is survived by his daughter Brenda (Pat) Stokes of Newark; and his brother Richard (Esther) Schworm; two grandchildren Holly (Kurt) Helfant and Patrick (Elizabeth) Stokes; five great-grandchildren Taylor, Paul, and Lexy Helfant, and Olivia and McKenzie Stokes; and his three great-great grandchildren Tilly Tarr, and Lincoln and Aayla Helfant; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Along with his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years Mary(Caldwell) Schworm; his brothers Donald Schworm, Clark Schworm, Stanley Schworm, Roland Schworm, and Lorin Schworm; his sister Eleanor Davis.
A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 11:00 am West Lawn Cemetery. The Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard will perform military honors.
