Ruth Kime Groff, 104, of West Lafayette, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at her residence.
Ruth was born August 13, 1920, in Warwick, Virginia to the late Edward Guy and Bessie (Smith) Hodges. She lived most of her life in Fresno and Plainfield, OH. She was well known for her dignity and strength, and her fierce love for her family meant she always did her best to ensure they had what they needed to be healthy and happy.
She raised and owned multiple horses and enjoyed showing them in American Saddlebred shows around Ohio and surrounding states. She collected dolls and had an extensive and lovely collection of Native American jewelry. She retired from General Electric as a manager of Human Resources in 1986.
She is survived by her granddaughter Lisa Esmond and great-grandchildren Abigail, Annalise and Ian; by her grandson Bill Moreland and great-granddaughter Rachel; by great-great granddaughters Riley, Lyndsey, and Trinity Larrick, and by one great-great-great grandson, Jaxson. She is also survived by her sister, Lilian (Jane) Johnson.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Ruth “Ellen” Patrick; her husband of 64 years, Carl Groff; and her siblings Mabel Holder and Larry Edward Hodges.
A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on March 17, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery in Fresno, OH, with Pastor Dan Eggan officiating.
